People like to say that fashion is more than just clothing; it's a reflection of the times we're living in. Sometimes that's just a way for people to intellectualize a topic that many others find frivolous, but for fall 2017, that's shaping up to be exceptionally true. On the more literal end of the spectrum, designers showing at New York Fashion Week have been incorporating political statements into their collections and shows. On a more subtle level, there's an argument to be made that female power dressing is emerging as a feminist-leaning runway trend. There were even hints of it on Chanel's couture runway in January.

Specifically, pantsuits have already shown up on more runways than we can count, and given how much they came to symbolize feminism during last fall's election — in addition to being Hillary Clinton's uniform of choice — we don't think that's an accident. (See also: Blue Ivy Carter and Katy Perry both wearing pantsuits at the Grammys on Sunday.)

That said, we also don't think politics were the sole impetus for the pantsuit's ubiquity; there's also a strong '80s power-suiting vibe pervading the fall 2017 collections, exemplified by bold blazers layered over high-neck shirting, often paired with tight, high-waisted pants or skirts and tights. Think Prince meets "Heathers."
Politics and decades aside, designers like Rosie Assoulin, Raf Simons, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia (for Oscar de la Renta), Phillip Lim, Victoria Beckham and more made some of the coolest pantsuits we've seen, and we can't wait to start wearing them next fall.

Grecian Archaeological Council Rejects Gucci's Bid for Acropolis Show

After descending upon Westminster Abbey for its 2017 resort show last June, Gucci was eyeing the Acropolis in Athens for its next on-location show. The Italian brand, which has experienced stellar sales and revenue growth under the creative control of Alessandro Michele, requested a permit to stage its 2018 Resort show at the ancient Grecian site this summer, but has been turned down by Greece’s Central Archaeological Council.

Culture Minister Lydia Koniordou told state television on Tuesday that a panel of ministry experts turned down the request, adding that she was in "total agreement." Koniordou further noted, "We have a duty to defend the importance of [the Acropolis] ... a global symbol of democracy and freedom."

Requests for commercial use of ancient monuments in Greece are rarely approved. In fact, in the past the Council has denied most commercial requests for archaeological sites. According to the Associated Press, however, singer Jennifer Lopez was granted access to the Acropolis for a 2008 photo shoot. The site also featured in the 2014 film "The Two Faces of January" starring Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst.

Saint Laurent Tuxedo Box Bag

Other Brands

The easiest way to describe Saint Laurent’s new Tuxedo Box Bag from their Spring-Summer 2017 Womens collection? Think of your favourite YSL compact face powder case, magnify it about 5 times, and that’s pretty much what this is. Measuring some 15 cm by 13 cm, it’s not the biggest clutch around, nor is it the roomiest, but for such a sexy collectible piece that is also really very, very pretty, sometimes the usual rules need not apply. Use it with (or without) its additional snake link chain and you’ve got the perfect night-out-on-the-town bag. How much you ask? Just SGD4250 for either colour.
